Frequently Asked Questions

DERMAL FILLERS

  • Dermal fillers are gel-like substances consisting of hyaluronic acid that can be injected under the skin to restore volume loss, smooth lines, soften creases and add definition. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that plays an important role in skin hydration.

  • Since opening up this clinic in Ottawa South, Nurse Shay prides herself in her ability to provide extremely natural lip filler injections to clientele of all ages. With this being said, natural does not always mean less product.

She always encourages first time lip filler clients to get a full 1ml syringe. Most new lip filler clients typically require between 1-3 syringes of dermal filler before achieving desired size. Please keep this in mind when booking.

Please be advised that only 1 syringe of dermal filler is allowed to be injected at a time for lips. Treatments for multiple syringes should be spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

  • Dermal fillers typically last between 6 months to a year depending on the volume injected, area treated, client lifestyle, and client genetics.

  • Dermal fillers are injected into the body with small gauge needles. Clients are told to expect some swelling and bruising from product administration. Pre-treatment instructions will be provided to clients for more information about bruising and swelling.

  • Topical numbing cream is applied 15 mins prior to the procedure. Dermal fillers are formulated with lidocaine in the product for more pain management. Clients typically tolerate dermal procedures well. Lip treatments are the most sensitive.

  • Dermal fillers last between 6 months to year. Clients are advised to get top-ups once or twice a year depending on their desired look. Some clients may need multiple syringes before achieving their desired size. Once desired size is achieved then top-ups can begin once or twice a year.

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

  • Anti-wrinkle injections are injections of botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Nuceiva). Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles, preventing skin from wrinkling and causing unwanted signs of aging.

  • I recommend to clients to consider starting anti-wrinkle injections when you begin to see lines at rest. Clients can be as young as 20 years old with fine lines. Anti-aging prevention is typically better the earlier you begin treatment.

  • Results are different depending on the individual and the type of botulinum toxin used. Results can be seen as early as 3 days post treatment in some clients. Full effect is achieved 2 weeks post treatment.

  • No topical numbing agent is used for anti-wrinkle injections. The botulinum toxin is injected with a 31g needle (insulin need) which is small but may still cause some minimal bruising and bleeding. Discomfort is minimal.

  • Results may vary. Typically clients return every 3-6 months to repeat the treatment and maintain results. If treatments are stopped, movement will go back to normal.

  • Small doses of botulinum toxin injected for anti-wrinkle purposes is considered safe aslong as its injected by an experience health care professional. All treatments have potential risks and side effects. These will be discussed prior to completing any treatments.

MICRONEEDLING & PRP

  • Microneedling is a collagen induced cosmetic therapy that involves causing repeated micro-trauma to the skin with tiny, sterile needles. The micro-trauma wounds then result in an influx of collagen and elastin to the treated area which helps the skin look younger, brighter and tighter.

  • Vampire facial or microneedling with protein rich plasma (PRP) consists of taking a blood sample from the client and extracting PRP. This plasma is then injected back into the face for more optimal results. PRP contains more platelets, growth factors and active proteins for tissue and injury healing.

  • Microneedling can be used to treat; acne, hair loss (alopecia), dark spots, hyper-pigmentation, large pores, reduced skin elasticity, scars, stretch marks, sun damage and fine lines and wrinkles.

  • The microneedling procedure may cause excessive redness, irritation and potential bleeding to the top layers of the skin. Redness can be expected for the first 1-6 days post procedure. Skin in treated area will be more sensitive to sunlight/UV.

  • Topical numbing cream is applied for 15mins pre treatment. Minimal discomfort during procedure. Treated area may feel irritated and/or uncomfortable for several hours or days post treatment.

  • The microneedling procedure only takes about 10-20 minutes depending on the size of the area. Most people see results after the first treatment, however, for optimal results, most clients need 4-6 treatments. Package deals available. Results may vary.
